BOOKS ARE THE MEANS BY WHICH WE SLIP, OFTEN HELPLESSLY, INTO ANOTHER’S SKIN, ANOTHER’S VOICE, ANOTHER’S SOUL.

—JOYCE CAROL OATES

As someone who has been a voracious reader her entire life, it was inevitable that The Story Dragon would be born one day. Believe it or not, I don’t go by this title in my day-to-day, so you’re also welcome to call me Taylor (she/her).

I grew up around stories. My mom worked in a middle school library, and my dad worked at a movie theatre. Therefore, childcare took the form of plopping me in front of a book or a screen. Are we really surprised that my imagination ran rampant and my disassociation from reality became my life breath? I’m not!

Now, I take my love for reading and use it to connect with others around the globe. Stories transcend borders and time. They become the history of the world and allow us to see from the eyes of another. They also take us to places only conjured in our wildest dreams (or nightmares).

My own journey with books has been one of escapism. They have always been my comfort in times of need. They have been my companions in times of loneliness. And they have been my inspiration in times of paralysis.

While stories are the great love of my life, I have a few significant additions that I couldn’t live without:

  1. Dogs: Riften and Sage are my precious babies. Sage was a foster that a friend was taking care of, and I snatched her up. Riften, I found on the side of a road and rescued. If you get the chance to watch my YouTube videos, they make (many) guest appearances!

  2. Coffee: I don’t even feel like I need to explain this one. It’s the fuel that keeps me trucking along.

  3. Family: Just some low key socialization and support. My brother and I have a concerning tendency to bond via dark humor.

I LEAPT EAGERLY INTO BOOKS. THE CHARACTER’S LIVES WERE SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING THAN THE LONELY HEARTBEAT OF MY OWN,
