Libby: Your Ticket to Free Ebooks and Audiobooks

Do you chase after books while your wallet chases financial stability? If so, the popular Unboxings by booktubers and booktokers alike might feel like a fever dream. Well, I’ve got a not-so-secret secret: Your book passion doesn’t need to leave your bank account weeping.

Allow me to introduce you to Libby!

Libby is a FREE app that gives you access to a treasure trove of the most popular ebooks and audiobooks. How, you may ask, does this come at no cost to users? Easy. Libby functions as an extension of your public library.

Still need more to convert to this amazing platform? I’m thrilled to share with you my top 5 reasons why Libby is a game-changer for readers on a budget.

  1. Customizable Experience

Want to change the text font or the text size? You got it. Prefer to read in sepia mode or night mode? Libby provides. In fact Libby even has a specialized dyslexia font! If your an annotating fiend, you can take notes, highlight sections, and bookmark pages as you read. And I know what you might be thinking: Libby is connected to the library, meaning this book gets returned. That doesn’t mean you lose your work! In your Reading Journey tab, you can export all of your annotations.

For audiobook lovers, Libby has your favorite features. Bookmark a memorable moment in the text and write a note about that timestamp. Change the narration speed to your preference. Do you tend to listen before bed? That’s great for Libby, as you can set a sleep timer to ensure you never lose your place!

2. Sync Across Your Devices

Any device that can host an app can have Libby. Yes, this includes your Kindle! All you have to do is link to your tablet and choose your reading preference. This means that switching between your computer, your phone, and your kindle keeps your annotations and your place in your novel! What more could a bookworm ask for?

3. User-Friendly Interface

Concerned about not being tech-savvy? No worries! Easy navigation was an essential design element of Libby. You can browse curated collections, search for favorite authors or specific titles, and discover your next read with individualized recommendations! Are you excited about a book that’s yet to release? Look it up anyways, then place a tag to be notified when your library adds it to their catalogue.

Still nervous? Take your device to your local library! I promise you that the librarians will be more than happy to help you install the app, log in, and borrow your first book!

4. Supporting Your Local Library

By using Libby, you’re supporting your local library! As a community member, you can promote literacy and all of the good that comes from the hard work of public librarians. Even more, your engagement may lend to more readers utilizing the library, and the multitude of resources it provides to teens and adults alike.

5. Did I mention it’s FREE?

Kindle Unlimited and Audible have their places in the reading community, as does holding a crisp physical copy of a beloved novel. But reading can be an expensive hobby. Especially if you’re exceeding Audible’s one-credit-per-month policy, or you desire a book that isn’t offered through Kindle Unlimited. Are there downsides to Libby? Sure. I would say the biggest con is wait times for the more popular releases. But with hundreds of thousands of books up for grab in the meantime, the wait won’t feel very long at all!
